Beliefs
Beliefs
Where do our beliefs come from and why do we believe they
are true?
Belief:
an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists, trust, faith,
or confidence in someone or something.
Beliefs can come from may places; they begin at a young age
and continue as we grow and learn. As we grow and learn we also realize that
some of the beliefs we learned as a child are not true, but the belief is
carried on because it is believed to create joy, traditions, even miracles.
Some beliefs have been passed down from generations to generations.
What about the beliefs that don’t create joy or miracles?
These may be different for everyone; we don’t all have the same beliefs, nor
are we all affected the same way by a belief. Take for instance the holidays;
some of us love to celebrate them and it brings us great joy, while others can’t
get them over with fast enough because it is not a happy time for them.
When beliefs are not causing us harm, and they bring us true
happiness then we should celebrate them. But when beliefs are causing us harm mentally,
physically, and/or emotionally it’s time to figure out why we believe them to
be true, where they came from, and what belief is true for us, and release the
ones that are no serving.
Sometimes we are not even aware that we have beliefs that
are harming us, we have had or heard them for so long that we just think they
are normal everyday things that happen in life.
For example, I am sure we have heard a few of these before: “The
rich get richer”, “Rich people are evil”, “It runs in the family – the illness,
weight issues, drinking, …”, “They are better than you because they have social
status”, “No one in this family has …, so you won’t either”, “Just blend in”, “Don’t
ask questions, just do as you’re told”, “If you don’t go to church, you won’t
go to heaven”, “If you eat starch, don’t count calories, don’t diet, etc.… you
will gain weight or be fat,” and the list goes on. These are all beliefs that
have been programed into our minds by other people, television, social media, …and
are in no way serving our highest good.
Just because someone else says or believes something to be
true for them doesn’t mean that is or should be true for us. It is only a belief
and a belief can be changed.
If you are not living the life you dreamed, maybe someone’s
belief is holding you back from being all that you are meant to be.
Remember beliefs are just beliefs that someone believes to
be true, it is up to us to decide whether or not these beliefs are true for us
and if they serve our highest good.
Here is an exercise you can try: You can create categories
for relationships, love, family, health, foods, work, home, finances, environment,
vacations, clothes, jewelry, movies, tv shows,… choose ones that resonate with
you that you would like clarity on or you are just not at the place you want to
be in that category
Here is one way we can start to release beliefs that are not
ours. (Feel free to go into more depth with your answers):
e.g. health (eyesight) – your eyesight is not where you
would like it to be
·
why do I believe this about my eyesight is the
way it is
o
because I was told it runs in the family
·
where did this belief come from
o
from generations of family saying so,
o
other places it may have come from – in school I
was told that smart kids wear glasses, my favorite movie start wore glasses, my
hero wears glasses, the older you get the worse your eyesight gets…
·
what is my true belief – I don’t believe that
just because someone in the family has poor vision that I should have it too
·
what can I do to change this belief to resonate
with my true self
o
set an intention or pray (setting an
intention from the heart is a higher frequency, is like a prayer) for what I
want, what I want to remove, and what I would like to experience
§
“I set the intention to have perfect eyesight
for my highest good, and I remove any blocks that are stopping me from having
this, I see with love.”
o
and I tell myself that I am healthy, and I have
perfect vision daily and every time I go to the bathroom, I look in the mirror and
I confirm my belief – “I am happy, I am healthy, I am beautiful, and
I see with love.”
“Therefore, I say to
you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them,
and they will be granted you. Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything
against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your
transgressions.” Mark 11:24-25
Choose a category, then write why you believe this, where
this belief came from, is it truly my belief, if it’s not your belief then
write what you truly believe and what changes you can create.
And he said to them “Because
of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, If you have faith the
size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to
there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you." Matthew
